Using 3M RFID/GPS Tags and Locator’s provides accurate location of Hydrants and Manholes in Flooded Areas In partnership with the 3M Company’s Track and Trace Division Miquest now provides the capability to map via GPS, the position of Hydrants and Manholes and marks them by burying a GPS/RFID (Passive) Tag alongside the pit. Using the marked map to get within GPS range then a “Locator” with an audio function will home in on the exact position of the Hydrant and or Manhole by emitting the strongest signal when above the RFID tag alongside the Hydrant or Manhole pit. Using this device in conjunction with Miquest software provides accurate and fast identification of Hydrants typically saving hours of time trying to find units that have been overgrown or buried under tarmac. Using the Locator in flooded areas will identify exactly where manholes are located and provide an opportunity to drop a marker to warn the emergency services and the public that caution is needed as the manhole may be uncovered and present immediate dangers.
